Chapter 22: Charlotte’s POV 

I let Leo assist me in the car and text my little henchman to make sure everything is in motion. I saw Leo had written her a note instructing her to use the town car for any and all her commutes today and decide it better to give his driver the day off. I then have my henchman pose as the driver and stay in the car. Leo was preoccupied with me and left without so much as checking in with his 

driver. 

We begin our drive to the German doctor my father bribed to sell the promise of my recovery. It was about an hour drive so I waited patiently for us to arrive or for a text confirmation of my most- wanted deed being done. 

After about forty–five minutes, I receive a text. Package received. No signature needed. This was too easy. Claire had already gotten into the car. Today would be a great day. 

“Leo, I’m famished. Can we stop for something to eat?” I ask kindly. 

“Of course. There’s an Italian deli nearby.” He says 

as he gets into the turning lane. 

“That sounds fantastic. Thank you!” 

“Are you excited to finally be able to walk again,

Chapter 22: Charlotte’s POV 

Charlotte?” He asks as we turn into the parking lot. 

“Yes, I won’t have to depend on everyone anymore.” 

“You’ll have the freedom to come and go as you please. No need for Nannie’s or caregivers anymore.” 

“You’ll still be there, won’t you?” Is he trying to get rid of me? 

“Of course, but maybe once you recover, Claire’s end of the deal can be fulfilled.” 

He wanted me to let her go. He was thinking about 

her. 

“I don’t see why not?” Patience. I couldn’t blow up 

over this. 

“Good. I’m glad you tried to help me by getting her to come home but I don’t think it’s fair for her to be 

a slave in her own home.” 

Her home? A slave? Help? I had no intention of helping Leo rekindle his love for her or get back to her. This was only to sabotage what was left of their relationship. 

“I would do anything for you, 

you, Leo.” 

We sit in silence as we eat and head back to the 

main road to see the doctor.

I start to worry about just how much harder winning Leo back will be, especially after I’m up and able again. His guilt has kept him so close to me and arms length from Claire but something in him is changing. He’s becoming tender–hearted to her and I have no idea why. 

Does he already know about the baby? 

Did she promise to return to him? 

Has she decided to stay after all? 

I hadn’t thought of these things happening so quickly and abruptly. Good thing – I took care of the biggest issue. I’d have to deal with the rest later. Once I’m “recovered“.
