I walked up to them with a smile before saying, "Hello, my name is Lightning Reed. It's a pleasure."
The father walked up to me and said, "Hello, Lighting. Like wise. I'm Mr. Roger or you can just call me Daniel and this is my wife, Mary. My son over there is Timmy." Mr. Roger pulled his hand out for me to take.
First I just stared at his hand, but gave in and shook it. When I touch his hand, I felt this strange feeling. The warmth from his hand was unnatural.
I gave him a questioning look that clearly says it all. Mrs. Roger stepped up and put up her hand out as well.
I took it too and shook it, but I came up with no feeling like her husband. She gave me a warm smile that says she's very kind.
It's quite odd that I have the ability to notice emotions of another being. I found this out when I ten. Right now, Mrs. Roger looks like I can trust her, but that has to wait and earned.
I have to get to know them better, if they adopt me of course .
Timmy came up to us, but instead of shaking hands, he just bowed, and smiled. I just smiled in return with a short bow.
We all sat at the table that was in the center of the room. Mr. Roger spoke first, "So please tell us about you?" He said.
"We'll I'm 17 years old, I'm 6'2. My favorite colors are blue and white. My parents are gone. I love nature and camping. I don't really do much than going outdoors. I draw pictures of wild animals too. Is their anything I missed?" They all stared at me with big smiles that started to creep me out.
Mrs. Roger spoke next, "No, nothing else. One thing though, are you afraid of any animals?" She asked. I thought about it, but I didn't have to. I wasn't afraid of anything.
I spoke, "No animal scares me Mrs. Roger. Honestly, animals love me." I giggled at that.
Mrs. Roger had this face of wonder.
Beginning Part 2
It was Tim's turn to ask me a question which I was nervous about. "Well this is boring, can we leave now." That kind of made me angry as he looked at his phone, not bothering to ask me anything, and just a minute ago he looked friendly.
Mrs. Roger look at him with a death glare, it was to funny to watch because he lowered his head in submission. "Tim quiet, we have to make a choice of taking her." She said in a whisper, but I heard it.
My heart pounded against my chest, making me feel emotional and anxious.
Both adults glanced over at me, their eyes showing curiosity.
I just smiled at them while fiddling with my thumbs under the table. Praying, hoping, they would adopt me. It's boring here and I want something thrillful to happen in my life, and this is my ticket.
We pulled apart, then the door opened and Ms. Grossman came in with her fake smile like always. "So did you make your choice Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, about the adoption or would you want to continue to look."
I was still scared they would reject me but I was mistaken. "No, Ms. Grossman. We'll take Ms. Reed here, she's very kind and thoughtful. We'll take her."
I can tell that Ms. Grossman was shocked, but for once in my life she actually smiled, a real one. "Very well Mrs. Roger I will get the papers."
She turned to me and said, "Why are you still here? Go to your room, and pack, so you can leave. Now hurry on."
I ran out the door, and straight up to my room. I grab all my clothes out of the closet and dresser, then putting them in my suitcase.
I grab my dagger my once father made from under my pillow. I held it with nervous hands, they were trembling from memories. I found it fantastical. The reason why is because it hums under my touch every time I held it. The blade begins to curve from the handle, and it's the finest metal ever; inconel.
Usually, I use it as a hunting tool when I go out in the middle of the night.
I slipped it under my clothes where no eye could see. Next, I went to my shelf full of books and grabbed my nature that my mother gave me. It tells a lot of information of all animal facts; like weaknesses, how strong they are, and how they live in the nature of the Earth.
Inside it, was the letter from my mother before she left with dad. I took a shaking breath, then zipped up my bag. I slip my head in my collar shirt, lifting my necklace and smiled sadly.
