My bestie Jessi stared at me wide-eyed, sipping on her iced coffee through a straw.

"What? Lila can play her little mind games, but I can't mess with his head a little?"

Jessi set her drink down, looking like she was struggling to find the right words.

Jessi and I grew up in the same foster home.
