She wore a simple cotton dress—long, modest, even buttoned at the neck. Yet her bare legs stretched out beneath the hem, pale and slender, catching the lamplight. Alone together this late at night, shouldn’t she at least have changed into something more appropriate?
Didn’t she realize there were boundaries between men and women?
Granted, he was her boss, but even so, wandering around in pajamas in front of him was a little much.
Rebecca, however, seemed oblivious to any impropriety. Noticing Dylan frozen on the edge of the bed, she urged him, “Go on, take your shower. Get some rest—we have to head back first thing in the morning.”
Dylan tore his gaze away, visibly uncomfortable. “Yeah, I know.” He turned sharply and strode into the bathroom, keeping his expression cold.
No sooner had he closed the door than Rebecca’s voice drifted through, cheerful and affectionate: “Hey, sweetheart~”
The word “sweetheart” made Dylan pause, but he didn’t linger to eavesdrop. He closed the door firmly behind him.
Rebecca quickly explained the sudden storm to her four little ones, telling them to head to bed early since she wouldn’t be home until the morning.
By the time she hung up, Dylan had finished his shower and stepped back into the room.
Rebecca glanced up and saw that he was still dressed head to toe in his suit, every button fastened, every inch of skin concealed. She frowned in disbelief.
Did he sleep in business attire every night?
Then again, this man always looked so prim and proper; it was almost boring.
Setting her phone aside, Rebecca flashed Dylan a smile. “Goodnight, Mr. Austin. I’m turning in.”
For a moment, Dylan was thrown by her smile. Her eyes were captivating, bright and expressive—almost flirtatious, even though she was just saying goodnight.
Why did she have to announce she was going to sleep, anyway?
He answered with a curt, “Goodnight,” then turned away and went to sit in the armchair by the window.

She patted the empty side in invitation.
Her offer was entirely innocent, just concern for his comfort. But to Dylan, it felt like something else entirely—an invitation, a test of his self-control.
He answered with an icy calm, “No, thank you. I’m not used to sharing a bed with anyone. And let me remind you, I’m married. Don’t get any ideas.”
After a few days traveling together, he felt compelled to make things clear. He respected Raina’s abilities, and didn’t want to see Rebecca make mistakes that could ruin her future.
Rebecca couldn’t help but laugh.
So, you do remember you’re a married man? You barely go home; you probably can’t even recall your wife’s face, but now you suddenly remember your vows.
Still, his self-righteousness was oddly entertaining.
Rebecca decided to tease him. “Relax, Mr. Austin. I won’t tell your wife we shared a bed tonight. It’ll be our little secret—just the two of us. So come on, you can stop worrying.”
