"Don't move!"

The police officers with guns drawn surrounded Elsa.

The paramedics immediately rushed toward the bathroom.

Elsa looked at the armed police, then at her own blood-soaked body.

She knew it was over.

She was done for.

She had killed three people, and now Gertrude would make four. She would never get her revenge on Caitlin.

At this moment, she was a cornered animal.

Though she had never been a criminal before, Elsa knew that death row inmates weren't executed immediately. She'd be locked up for months, then face a trial, and then wait for the execution process.

Death itself wasn't frightening. What was frightening was waiting for death, and even more so, prison. Especially prison on death row.

Inmates on death row had no rights. They were starved, sleep-deprived, bullied, and subjected to all sorts of humiliation.

"No. Icouldn't endure that kind of suffering. So, rather than being captured and sent to prison..."

Thinking this, Elsa's eyes narrowed. Gripping the knife tightly, she plunged it into her own stomach!

Her body went limp and she collapsed to the floor, but she felt no pain.

"It was worth it. I was dying, but I was taking three people with me, and I hadn't suffered at all. I hadn't spent a single day in jail."

Inside the bathroom, the paramedics administered first aid to Gertrude before quickly moving her onto a stretcher.

Louie cried out, "Doctor, doctor, how is my wife?"

"Her condition doesn't look good. We need to get her to the hospital for surgery immediately!"

As for Gertrude, while she had parents and many siblings, they were all leeches, only ever thinking about what they could get from her. Upon hearing she was hurt, their first thought would be about compensation, not her well-being.

So now, outside the operating room, aside from the police officers waiting with him, there was no one else.

Time ticked by, one minute, one second at a time.

Three hours passed in a blur.

The doors to the operating room opened.

Louie rushed forward. "Doctor, doctor, how's my wife?"

The surgeon pulled down his mask, his expression filled with regret. "The attacker aimed to kill. Your wife's injuries are extremely severe. You need to prepare yourself and call her family so they can see her one last time."

Louie's legs gave out, and he felt his world crumble. He dropped to his knees in front of Dr. Lowell, sobbing, "Doctor! Doctor! I'm begging you! Please save my wife! She's so young! If you can save her, I'll pay any amount of money! I have savings, I can sell my house, I can sell my car!"
