"Nathan and I are doing just fine. Or were you hoping we weren't?"

Roger's face darkened. "Edric, if you've had too much to drink, go sober up somewhere. This is my birthday party."

"Dad, Ivy's been keeping something from you. From all of us."

Roger frowned. "What are you getting at?"

"Actually…"

"That's enough!" Roger snapped. "We have guests here. Whatever this is, it can wait until after the party."
