"Just a few days ago, I heard from the tavern owner that lately, he has often seen men with tattoos similar to His Majesty the King’s," Salem added. "Maybe not very often, but at least once or twice. He accidentally noticed them while delivering alcohol supplies to the palace soldiers."
Primrose was left momentarily speechless. Salem had gathered such important information in only a few days. Still, she didn’t ask how he managed it. Somehow, she already knew the answer would not be simple.
"Some of them have the tattoo on their arms, others on their legs," Salem continued. "That’s why they’re hard to notice unless they roll up their sleeves or trousers. But..." His lips curved slightly. "I already found one."
He shifted his gaze toward one of the guests walking toward the balcony. The man’s sleeve was stained with red wine, so he had to roll it up to clean his skin.
At that moment, they saw an identical tattoo to the one on Averon’s neck. Since no one else was paying attention to that guest, of course no one noticed, except them.
"Did you spill red wine on his clothes?" Primrose asked, narrowing her eyes.
Salem stuck out his tongue a little. "It was the fastest way. Besides, the tavern owner had already given me his description, so I just needed to confirm it," he added. "And he didn’t get angry when he saw my face."
Well... no wonder Salem came to the banquet dressed properly instead of wearing his usual clown outfit.
"Do you know him?" Primrose asked.
Before Salem could reply, Edmund spoke first. "He’s the Duke of Obsidia, from the Kingdom of Nerathis."
Primrose raised an eyebrow, since the Kingdom of Nerathis bordered the Kingdom of Azmeria. However, she didn’t recognize the Duke of Obsidia because the previous duke had died, and it seemed he had been replaced by his eldest son, Garrick.
"I met him a few years ago, when I visited Father," Edmund explained.
Primrose frowned even more, realizing that her husband had met Lazarus many times, something she had never known.
Then again, Edmund always disguised himself whenever he went to Illvaris, so no wonder she hadn’t known.
"He’s one of Father’s VIP buyers, so I remember his face clearly," Edmund stated. He then turned to Salem. "You wouldn’t tell me all this if you didn’t want something from me. What do you want?" he asked directly.
Salem chuckled. "Your Majesty, you really don’t like wasting time." He continued, "That Duke seems to have a fairly close relationship with Averon, so we might be able to find where they’re hiding the children in this kingdom."
Primrose’s eyes twitched at those words. A hiding place for children in this kingdom? That meant Averon had carried out his rotten schemes on land she had been standing on all this time.
And the fact that she had never heard of it before meant one thing; he had hidden it very well.
"Can you catch the little mouse, Your Majesty?" Salem asked.
