"That’s not the point!" Lazarus snapped. "You kidnapped an entire entourage from another kingdom! Do you want to start a war?!"
Primrose gently patted his arm. "Father, please don’t panic. We’re only keeping them here for a short while. Once everything is settled, we’ll send them back safely."
Edmund nodded again. "They are being treated well. There won’t be any torture, or chains."
"That does NOT make it better!!" Lazarus exploded. "Argh! My head! It feels like it’s going to burst!" He took a deep breath before continuing, "Fine. Let’s say you release them later, won’t they recognize you and immediately testify against you?"
Primrose waved her hand lightly. "Oh, you don’t need to worry about that." She smiled sweetly. "They won’t even remember they were ever held here."
Lazarus still looked confused, but Primrose did not explain to him that she had the ability to erase someone’s memories and plant new ones inside their mind.
So instead, she simply said, "We have experts who can make potions that erase memories. That’s why, Father, you don’t have to worry. No one will know about this matter."
At first, Lazarus still wasn’t fully convinced. But the thing was, his daughter normally panicked far more than he did whenever she had to do something new.
So when he saw Primrose looking so calm without even a hint of worry, Lazarus believed she wasn’t lying.
Maybe he really didn’t have anything to fear.
"Alright, but keep your promise." Lazarus turned to Edmund with a serious look. "Don’t stain my dungeon with blood."
"Of course, Father. Besides, I’m not an expert in torturing people," Edmund replied.
Lazarus clicked his tongue. "Don’t lie to me, son. Do you think I’ve only known you for one or two years?"
Edmund quickly looked away, clearly avoiding the comment. Primrose quickly took over the situation. "Alright, Father. Since you’ve already caused a scene first thing in the morning, here’s what you should do so no one becomes suspicious of us."
She asked Lazarus to claim he’d simply had a heated argument with his son-in-law because Edmund had taken her walking through the city until late at night.
Everyone in the manor already knew how protective Lazarus was, so of course they would believe it.
Then, without telling her father anything more, Primrose followed Edmund down to the manor’s dungeon.
"He probably thinks you’ve gone completely crazy for bringing me here," Primrose said with a soft laugh as she stepped inside.
But what Primrose hadn’t expected was just how cold the dungeon was. The chill went straight into her bones, and her teeth began to chatter. Edmund noticed right away and took off his scarf, even though she was already wearing one.
He gently wrapped it around her head and over the lower half of her face so she wouldn’t keep shivering. "Is that better? If not, I can ask one of the soldiers to bring you another coat."
