Primrose fell silent for a moment before suddenly bursting into tears again, even louder than before.

"I thought..." she cried between her sobs, "I thought you were really so angry at me that you didn’t want to wear our wedding ring anymore..."

Seeing her cry like that immediately made Edmund panic. He quickly stood up and moved onto the bed beside her.

"No, of course not," he said right away. "I would never take off my wedding ring for a reason like that."

His voice sounded firm, almost desperate to make her understand. "Even if we have a small fight, I still wouldn’t take it off."

Primrose looked at him with watery eyes. "So... you only take it off when your hands get dirty, right?" she asked weakly.

A few seconds later, Edmund reached into his pocket and took out the ring. "Look," he said softly. "I’m wearing it again."

He slowly slipped the ring back onto his finger before showing it to Primrose on purpose, almost like he was trying to calm an anxious child.

"See? I’m fine." He gently cupped his wife’s cheeks and spoke in a soft, gentle voice. "We’re fine, my wife."

Primrose’s tears still hadn’t fully stopped, but her expression slowly softened after hearing those words.

"And the reason I wasn’t talking much or touching you earlier..." Edmund continued gently, "was because I wanted to give you some space."

His thumb gently wiped away the tears on her cheeks. "Besides," he added softly, "I could tell you were trying very hard not to cry the whole time."

Primrose immediately puffed her cheeks a little. "Was it really that obvious?" she asked embarrassedly.

Edmund couldn’t help letting out a small chuckle. "It was," he admitted honestly. Then his expression softened again as he looked at her. "At least to me."

She still looked pouty, so Edmund leaned closer and kissed her cheek.

"It’s not a bad thing," he whispered softly. "At least this way, I can understand what my wife is feeling."

His voice slowly became quieter afterward. "So I won’t repeat the same mistakes I made in the past."

The moment he mentioned the past again, Primrose’s expression slowly stiffened. The relaxed atmosphere from earlier immediately became heavier. Edmund noticed it, but he still continued speaking carefully.

"For someone to notice the strange taste of that poison back then..." he said carefully, "they would’ve needed to drink enough of it for the poison to already spread too deeply through their body."

His eyes darkened slightly as he looked at her. "You didn’t truly choose death on your own," Edmund said softly. "The poison had already spread throughout your entire body by then, and it could also affect the way you thought."
