After Charlotte finished talking, Samantha was completely silent for almost two minutes. When she finally spoke, her voice was shaky, like she couldn't believe it. "Nora's really alive? She's actually alive?"

"Yeah." Charlotte gave a small smile. "If everything goes as planned, she should be back today. I just wanted to let you know, so you could be ready."

Samantha let out a long breath. It was a lot to take in, and she needed a second to process it all.

"What about Grandpa..." Samantha frowned, dropping her voice. "Kevin and I will handle it. Don't worry."

"Thank you."

"Wait, one more thing." Just as Charlotte was about to hang up, Samantha jumped in again. Her tone turned icy. "Is your dad treating Nora right? If he isn't, he better not even think about coming home." Her voice got louder. Even through the phone, Charlotte could feel her anger. "And your uncle might just punch him!"

"He's actually been really good to her." Charlotte touched her hair, smiling helplessly. Her voice dropped to a soft murmur. "Honestly, with my mom's temper, I don't think anyone could mess with her."

"That's true!" Samantha laughed a little. She and Nora had grown up together, close as real sisters. Nora had always been smart and capable, kind of a legend at school. No one had ever been able to push her around.

After the call ended, Charlotte kept her phone in hand and opened the news. Her lips curled into a cool smile as she scrolled through the endless headlines, her eyes darkening.

"Stop looking at that." Anthony took the phone from her, turned it off, and tossed it aside. "Go freshen up. Breakfast is almost ready."
