Robert went quiet, lost in thought. Solenia was pretty much an international gray zone. The place was full of all kinds of people, but somehow it stayed stable and even thrived. Honestly, it wasn’t a bad place at all. If Franco was a manager there, that meant he was more than capable.

Robert didn’t expect Franco to be filthy rich or anything. All he wanted was for Franco to give Nora a safe, steady life, to love her and take care of her. That was enough.

“Not bad,” Robert said, nodding, clearly satisfied. He lowered his voice. “But management jobs are tough. If it gets too much, you can always quit and come back to Cabinda. You could join our company or start your own thing. Either way works.”

Everyone else just stared at him, confused.

Robert had definitely gotten the wrong idea. When Franco said “management,” he meant running all of Solenia, not just being some middle manager. And now Robert was talking about quitting and coming to work for the family business? Even three of the Gates Group couldn’t compete with Solenia.

It was almost funny to think that, someday, if Robert ever found out the “manager” Franco was actually the leader of Solenia, he’d be so shocked he might even drop his cane.

“I was thinking the same thing,” Franco answered right away. “Once I get things sorted out over there, I’ll bring Nora back as soon as I can. I want to be here for you.”

Nora’s head snapped toward him. Was he really thinking about giving up Solenia and coming back to Cabinda? Franco had risked his life and spent years fighting to get that position. Was he seriously going to throw it all away just because her dad said a few words?

“Franco…”

Solenia meant everything to him. Besides, after they went back, she wasn’t sure her body would be strong enough for another trip to Cabinda. This time, she’d come home because she thought it might be her last chance to see her family.

He didn’t have to give up his whole life for her.

“Nora, I love Cabinda,” Franco said, gently taking her hand. His eyes were soft, and his voice was so tender it almost didn’t sound real. “Your family is here. Our daughter is here. Nora, this is our home.”
