“Are you trying to force me into marrying you?” Charlotte raised an eyebrow, her tone playful.

“An engagement works, too.” Anthony took her hand, gently running his thumb over her knuckles as he grinned. “Otherwise, I keep worrying you’ll leave me someday.”

Charlotte held his gaze for a few seconds, then finally gave in. “After we come back from the Isle of Veil, our families can meet.”

“For real?” Anthony’s eyes lit up, a spark of excitement flashing across his face.

“Yeah.” Charlotte pressed her lips together, her voice steady. “Sooner or later, you’re mine anyway.”

“What happened to Hamlin?” Charlotte shot upright, color draining from her face. The surgery had gone well, and he’d already made it through the first twenty-four hours. There shouldn’t have been any issues.

“It’s Morton!” Zoe sobbed, her words tumbling out. “We checked the security cameras. A strange man took Morton away.”
