She ended the call.
Charlotte's eyes narrowed as she crossed her legs, idly spinning her phone between her fingers. Dr. David’s weird reaction lingered in her mind, so she called the institute one more time. The answer she got was exactly what Dr. David had said before. Now that she knew the truth, she was even more furious.
Seventy million. Seriously, Dr. David? What a money pit.

Meanwhile, over in Cabinda, Anthony had just finished his injection. It hadn’t even been two hours and he was already burning up with a high fever. Hans had never seen him like this and was totally freaking out.
“Anthony, you really need to rest,” Hans urged. Anthony was sick, but he kept tracking everything going on with the Isle of Veil. If anything happened…
“I’m fine.” Anthony tugged at his collar, fingers tapping quickly over his laptop keyboard. Even though his face was pale, there was the tiniest hint of a smile. “So Charlotte actually scammed them out of a billion?”
“Yes,” Hans admitted. “She didn’t just take a billion. She also got the research institute to work for us for free, basically.”
It was clear Charlotte planned to squeeze every drop from the institute, then tear it apart, piece by piece. That was just how she operated.
“Everything’s going exactly the way Charlotte planned. You don’t need to worry.” Hans frowned, hesitating before he added, “But if you don’t start looking better soon, Charlotte’s going to notice something’s off when you video call her tonight.”
Anthony’s fingers froze over the keyboard. Before lying down, he reminded Hans, “Make sure the people from X Organization and N Organization are ready in advance.”
This was going to be a brutal fight. The four big powers were going to face off sooner or later.
...
Two days later, Charlotte finally isolated the first virus strain. The whole lab went wild with excitement.
When Allanson heard about it, a cold smirk played at his lips. “She’s actually got some skills,” he said, half mocking, half impressed.
He was right to go after her weakness.
“Grandpa, according to Charlotte’s latest report, once we isolate five strains, we’ll finally know what causes the genetic mutation,” Marcia explained.
