In this standout chapter of the Romance novel The Mocked Miss’s Hidden Crowns, Carmen Henley introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

The most exclusive private club in the city sat right at the heart of the busiest, priciest district. People called it the secret kitchen for the city’s richest families. Security was always tight, discretion even tighter. With prices that could make anyone’s jaw drop, most folks couldn’t get anywhere near it.

But today, something even crazier was happening. Someone had dropped millions to rent out the whole place, just for one day. The entire area within fifty meters of the club was locked down. Guards in black suits and earpieces stood in neat lines, faces stone-cold, eyes sharp and alert.

Word was out: The heir to The Blair Group was getting engaged today, to a girlfriend nobody seemed to know. Who was she? No one could say. The Blair family kept her identity under wraps and had made it crystal clear to the press that prying would not be tolerated. So no reporters dared poke around. Lavinia nodded in agreement. “That’s right, Nora. I treat Lottie like my own daughter. I’d never let anything happen to her.”

Nora smiled, reassured. She’d already asked Samantha about the Gates family. Between that and Anthony’s reputation, she felt comfortable handing her daughter’s future over to them.

Patricia went on, “Nora, here’s our list of engagement gifts. When it’s time for the wedding, we’ll multiply everything by ten.”

As she finished, her assistant unfurled a red velvet scroll that stretched three meters across the table, filled top to bottom with gifts and details.

“If there’s anything you’re not happy with, just say the word. Lottie only deserves the best,” Lavinia added with a warm smile.

The Gates family was one of the city’s most powerful, their fortune counted in the hundreds of billions. Even so, they were stunned by the sheer generosity on that list.

And this was only the engagement...
