“Where’s Dennis? Where is my son?”
Henry Dean walked into the school as if he owned the place. As an honorary board member and one of the biggest donors, he always made it clear he was top dog here. He barely bothered to look anyone in the eye.
“Dad, I’m over here.”
Dennis’s voice came from the corner. He glared at the group beside him, his eyes full of anger, and hurried to call out.
Henry marched into the office, his leather shoes hitting the floor with every step. When he saw Dennis’s face, bruised and swollen, his temper snapped.
“What happened to you? Who did this? Was it them?”
He shot a sharp look at the kids standing near Dennis. Andrew and Parrish stood tall, their chins up and posture careless, like they had nothing to be afraid of. Both of them looked ready to fight. Shirley, on the other hand, stared at the floor, her hands balled into fists, shaking just a little.
Then there was Charlotte.
She leaned quietly against the wall in the corner, her long hair and bangs almost hiding her face. Even though he couldn’t see her clearly, Henry could tell right away she was the tough-to-handle type.
“Did you hit my son?” Henry demanded, his voice booming through the office as he waved his arms for emphasis. “Where are your parents? You think you can get away with this after what you did to my boy?”
The whole room went silent under Henry’s angry shouts.
Ronald hurried forward, smiling even wider than he had when he greeted Steven earlier. “Henry, please, take a moment. We’re waiting for the other parents to arrive. Once they’re here, Charlotte will give you and Dennis a proper explanation.”
He even pointed Charlotte out, almost like he was doing Henry a favor.
“Charlotte?” Henry repeated, his tone shifting as he started to put things together.
Henry’s mouth snapped shut. He knew better than to mess with the Fords, and the Blairs were even more untouchable.
Steven, who had been standing quietly nearby, suddenly turned pale. He hadn’t expected Charlotte to get mixed up with three families that powerful—the Deans, the Fords, and the Blairs. Especially the Blairs. Even if you added up the Main family, the Deans, and the Fords, they still couldn’t compete.
If the Blair family found out Charlotte was the one who started all this, there was no telling what they’d do to the Main family.
Olivia’s mother had been right. He never should have let Charlotte come back.
After thinking it over, Steven stepped forward and spoke quietly. “Henry, may I say something?”
Everyone turned to look at him the moment he spoke.
