“We still haven’t found Olivia,” one of his men reported, his tone respectful and careful. “Chances are, someone took her.”

“You can go,” he said, his voice turning cold.

He waited until the room was empty before picking up his phone and dialing Damaris.

“You’re the one who took her,” Newell said, skipping any small talk. His tone was icy and blunt.

“That’s right.” Damaris didn’t bother denying it. There was a barely hidden excitement in his voice. “Newell, your father’s wish is finally coming true.”

Wish? Newell almost laughed. The whole chase for that bracelet, all the elaborate plans, and for what? His father’s dreams, not his. Whether Newell lived or died clearly didn’t matter.

“We’ve got the antidote now,” Damaris went on, oblivious to the storm brewing in Newell’s mind. “And the test subject you’ve been searching for all these years. The Hawk Family’s true heir, Charlotte—she’s the gene mutant. She’s in Novaria. You need to find a way to capture her.”

That last part hit a nerve. Newell couldn’t hide the edge in his eyes.

“Capture her?” He let the silence hang for a few seconds, then gave a cold, sarcastic smile. “If The Hawk Family can’t handle her, what makes you think you can?”
