Kingswood University, Medical Department.
Charlotte walked in just as Glenn was guiding students through an experiment. Her classmates noticed her right away.
“Am I seeing things because Glenn yelled at me too much, or is that really Charlotte?” One student rubbed his eyes, completely stunned.
“It’s her, it’s really her!” another said, voice full of excitement. “No way!”
Suddenly everyone’s eyes went wide. They waved at her, grinning like she was a celebrity. Even though Charlotte hadn’t been on campus for a while, stories about her were everywhere. Thanks to her, Kingswood’s department of traditional medicine had become famous, even trending higher than The Cabinda University’s medical school online. To Kingswood students, Charlotte was basically a legend.
“Hey, long time no see,” Charlotte greeted, leaning against the windowsill with her arms crossed. She gave a small smile, and her face—half hidden under a black baseball cap—was impossible not to notice.
“What brings you back here?” Glenn asked. He was clearly happy to see her, but he couldn’t resist being a bit snarky.
“Not happy to see me?” Charlotte straightened up, arching her eyebrow. “Alright then, I’ll just go.”
“Hey, wait, wait!” Glenn quickly took off his gloves and rushed over. For someone in his seventies, he moved surprisingly fast, clearly worried she might actually leave.
“You took half a year off. Why are you suddenly back?” he asked, a little out of breath, hands on his waist.
“I have something I want to ask you.” Charlotte shoved her hands in her pockets, gaze dropping. She didn’t look like she was in the best mood.
“Come in, sit down.”
Glenn led her to his office, poured her a glass of warm water, and gave her a soft smile. “If it’s about research, I’m not sure I can help you.”
“I think you can.” Charlotte put down her backpack, pulled out a white folder, and handed it over. “I remember you said you spent some time studying gene mutations.”
