Charlotte was hunched over her computer, scrolling through page after page on G5 when her phone rang. The second she heard the caller claim to be G5, her whole body went rigid. Her voice shot up a notch, cold and sharp. “Who is this?”

Was she hearing things? The woman on the line insisted she was G5, her grandmother’s old friend…

“Hello?” Charlotte frowned, ready to dig for more answers.

Suddenly, a man’s voice barged in, rough and urgent. “G5, sorry about this.”

“You—” G5’s voice broke through, desperate. She forced out one last message. “Charlotte, the antidote…”

The call cut off.

A chill swept over Charlotte. Her eyes turned stormy, and a dangerous energy seemed to fill the room.

“What happened?” Anthony stepped in just then, catching sight of Charlotte’s hands flying over the keyboard. Her usually lovely face looked icy and severe.

“Who was that? Why are you so worked up?” He set down a bowl of chicken soup and eased his arms around her from behind, resting his chin gently on her head.

“I’ve got good news and bad news.” Charlotte glanced at him, not pausing as she punched in coordinates. “Which do you want first?”

“Good news,” Anthony replied, not missing a beat.

“It was G5 who called. She has the antidote,” Charlotte answered, her face giving nothing away.

“G5?” Anthony’s eyes darkened with surprise. After all this time searching everywhere, G5 just called out of nowhere?

Charlotte snorted, barely holding back her anger. “Allanson spent all this time exposing who I am, even brought up the gene mutation… He was obviously trying to lure G5 out.”

“Exactly.” Anthony nodded, his own face tense. “After everything that happened before, you’d think he’d know better. There’s no way The Hawk Family benefits from starting a fight right now. Unless he wants to keep researching the mutation… But there’s no lab anymore. They can’t just start over like that.”

“Unless…” Anthony’s eyes locked on hers. He spoke quietly, each word heavy. “G5 still has the antidote.”

“Allanson doesn’t know you already took it. He thinks he can use the antidote to threaten you, get what he wants.”

Neither of them had any idea what that might be just yet.

“…Threaten me?” Charlotte repeated, her expression hardening.
