It all came down to DM.
“You two stay out of this.” Allanson waved his hand, dismissing them.
“Yes, Father.”
Once Aloys and Marcia had left, Allanson took the box and made his way to his private lab. He went through the usual steps, then opened the huge safe. Inside, there was only a single photo album.
He placed the box carefully inside, then picked up the album. Winnie's face beamed up at him from the cover, young and radiant, her smile full of life.
“You tried so hard to cut ties with me back then. And now…” Allanson traced his finger across the cold photograph, a bitter smile tugging at his lips. “Some things just end up right where they started.”

Imperial Heights.
Charlotte lounged on the sofa, with Nora and Franco sitting close on either side. Anthony was in the kitchen, making soup, and kept glancing their way.
“Lottie, I heard about the Isle of Veil,” Nora said.
She peeled a grape, popped it into Charlotte’s mouth, then gently dabbed her lips with a napkin.
After taking the antidote and getting some real rest, Nora had bounced back fast. The mutation in her genes was gone, and color had finally returned to her cheeks.
“Oh.” Charlotte opened her mouth for another grape, her tone lazy and content. “You two don’t need to worry about any of that.”
“How are we not supposed to worry?” Nora’s face darkened. She struggled to keep her voice level, but frustration simmered beneath the surface. “Lottie, you and Anthony already took the antidote, right?”
“So…” Nora’s voice faltered. “You’re planning to go to the Isle of Veil and get the antidote from Allanson?”
“It’s the only choice.”
“No way.”
Nora’s answer was instant. She stood up, pointing at Charlotte’s belly, her voice trembling with worry. “Before, when you didn’t have a baby, you could sneak off, take risks, and as long as you came back safe, I could let it go. But now… you’re not even three months along. The pregnancy isn’t stable yet.” Her voice went sharp. “Allanson isn’t going to play nice. He’ll never let you off easy.”
“Don’t get so worked up.” Charlotte frowned, her hand resting calmly on her stomach. “There’s nothing he can do to me.”
She honestly didn’t get what Allanson was thinking this time. She had Solenia, the N Organization, and the X Organization in her hands. Did he really think he could control her just because of the antidote? Maybe he’d finally lost his mind.
