A three-hundred-million deal—shouldn’t that be a big deal?
When Anthony listened to the executive’s report, his eyes and face already had that chilly, frosted look. His voice went low. “Do you not understand simple instructions, or what?”
The exec froze, confused. Did he say something wrong?
Anthony cut him off, but his gaze flicked over to Charlotte, who was rummaging around for water. Instantly, his tone softened. “Hey, don’t drink cold water, okay?”
He tossed his phone onto the table, grabbed an insulated flask, opened it, and brought it right to Charlotte’s lips.
He didn’t forget about the call. “If you can’t even handle something this basic, maybe someone else should take your place.” Then, without waiting for an answer, he just hung up.
The executive was left staring at his phone, wiping sweat from his brow. “A three-hundred-million deal is considered minor?” He looked at his colleague, disbelief written all over his face.
His colleague just shrugged. “Anthony once dropped nine hundred million on a pink diamond, just to make his wife smile.”
“And that pink diamond? Pretty sure his wife tossed it in a drawer and forgot about it.”
The executive was left speechless.
Anthony looked over at Charlotte. “What are you drawing?”
He’d finished with work, and now his attention was all hers.
Charlotte barely looked up. “Just doodling.”
When Anthony leaned closer, she quickly shut off the iPad and picked up his hand instead, playing with his fingers.
He let her, and set his chin gently on her shoulder, his voice almost a whisper. “Want me to come pick you up tonight?”
“No need.”
Charlotte kept her expression cool. “I’ve got stuff to do in the lab. Don’t know when I’ll be done. If it gets too late, I’ll just stay at the university.”
Anthony nodded. He never tried to control her schedule. “If you want to come home, just call me.”
