“Allanson…”
Nora stared at the opened boxes, eyes wide as she took in the sight—rare and glittering jewels, stacks of bank cards, property deeds, and even signed documents transferring stock and assets. It was everything, organized and complete.
Had Allanson really given away his entire fortune to Lottie?
“What is he trying to do?” Nora frowned, glancing in Allanson’s direction. Her voice was low and serious. “He and Lottie were always on bad terms. Is he playing some new trick? If he dares to hurt her again, I won’t let it go.”
“Don’t worry. That won’t happen.”
Franco wrapped his arms around Nora, his expression solemn as he watched the last of the cars disappear down the drive. “Lottie is Winnie’s granddaughter. Allanson isn’t out to hurt Charlotte anymore. He’ll do everything to protect her now… He wouldn’t have handed everything over otherwise.”
These were things Allanson used to never even be allowed near. Franco had heard whispers—these gifts were meant for Winnie long ago, wedding presents Allanson had set aside for her. Through the years, the collection only grew. Now, all of it belonged to Lottie.
“Charlotte, what do you want to do with these?” one of the servants asked quietly once the gifts were accounted for.
Before Charlotte could speak, Robert answered, his tone heavy. “Leave them. That’s what he owes Winnie and Lottie.”
Charlotte pressed her lips together as she looked at the overflowing boxes. She glanced at her grandfather, her voice soft, “We’ll do as you say.”
“Keep them, but I don’t want to see them,” Robert finished. He got to his feet and turned to the butler. “Come with me. I need some air.”
“Yes, Robert.” The butler didn’t ask questions; he just signaled for the car.
After the car rolled away, Nora quietly stepped up beside Charlotte. “Your grandfather has always had a soft spot, hasn’t he?”
