Stella’s expression froze at Lottie’s words. It took her a long moment to find her voice. "Is that so? That's great."

A golden boy like Roger deserved someone equally perfect.

"Charlotte, you're pregnant. You should get some rest." Stella's mood had plummeted, and terrified that her friend would notice, she rushed to end the call. "Goodnight."

"Alright."

Charlotte ended the video call and tossed her phone aside. She snuggled into Anthony’s embrace, resting her legs casually across his lap.

"Since when did you start lying to people?" he asked.

Anthony shifted his laptop out of the way, wrapping his warm hands around her calves to give them a gentle massage.

"If we rely on that thick skull of his, when will he ever win her over?" she complained.

Pressing herself against Anthony's chest, her tone turned serious. "She isn't like Shirley or Emily. When Stella puts her walls up, no amount of warmth can melt the ice."

"Do you really think you can play matchmaker for them?" Anthony asked softly, gazing down at her face.

"This is his last shot. If it doesn't work out, he's destined to die alone." Charlotte wrapped her arms around his waist, soaking in his familiar scent. A wicked smile touched her lips. "You were so much easier to catch. One little tug on the line, and you were hooked."

"Nonsense."

Anthony caught her soft hand, pressing a tender kiss to her knuckles. His eyes were dark with affection. "You didn't even have to cast the line. I jumped right into the boat."

Charlotte shot him a glare and turned her head away, murmuring, "Stop it. Go to sleep."

If she kept flirting with him, she wouldn't be getting any sleep tonight.

"I'm not tired."

He leaned in closer, pulling her flush against him beneath the covers. His warm breath brushed her ear, his voice dropping to a seductive rasp. "Do you want to..."

"Absolutely not."

Charlotte shoved lightly at his chest, narrowing her eyes. "If you've got that much energy to burn, you can start thinking of names for your two babies."

Baby names?

Seeing her feigned intimidation tactics, Anthony chuckled. He tucked the blankets securely around her shoulders, switched off the overhead light, and clicked on the small bedside lamp.

Then...

Reaching for his laptop, he bathed in the soft glow of the screen and casually began browsing through a digital baby name directory.
