A local hospital?

Hearing that, Charlotte let out a sigh of relief. If he was at a local clinic, it meant his injuries weren't life-threatening. Roger was a doctor himself; he knew what he was doing.

"Don't panic. As long as he's alive, it's fine," Charlotte reassured her. She checked the flight schedules on her tablet and raised an eyebrow. "I was planning to fly out right now, but there's a massive storm in Montara, and all flights are grounded. I'll hire a caregiver to help you watch him. You need to rest, too. The second the flights resume, we're heading over."

Sitting next to her, Anthony shot her a glance and smirked quietly.

"Okay," Stella murmured. Hearing Charlotte's calm voice settled her nerves slightly. "Lottie, I'm so sorry."

"This was my brother's choice. It has nothing to do with you," Charlotte said smoothly, a hint of amusement in her tone. "But if you really feel bad, make him some good soup over the next few days to help him recover."

"...Alright." Stella looked over at Roger's pale face and agreed without hesitation.

She hung up the phone, walked back to the chair beside his bed, and sat down, quietly keeping watch over him.

She had said such awful things to him, yet she still couldn't push him away.

Roger... didn't know about her past, did he?

If he ever found out she wasn't the perfect girl he imagined, would he be disappointed?

Stella lowered her head, her eyes growing damp.

If only... if only she had met Roger at the best time in her life.

The next day.

The rain had poured all night and showed no signs of stopping.

When Roger woke up, the hospital room was incredibly quiet, the lights dimmed. But his eyes immediately landed on the girl sound asleep, resting her head near his hand on the edge of the bed.

Stella frowned slightly but reluctantly sat back down beside him.

"What are you so afraid of?" Seeing her pale little face, Roger couldn't help but chuckle. He genuinely didn't understand. "Am I that terrifying? Why do you always keep your head down when you see me?"

He had watched her for a long time. She got along perfectly fine with everyone else. He was the only one she actively avoided.

"I'm not," Stella shook her head, her voice betraying her nervousness. "Dr. Roger, thank you for saving me yesterday. This debt... I..."

"How are you going to repay it?" Roger reached out, gently brushing her bangs aside. His dark eyes locked onto hers, his voice dangerously seductive. "I don't lack money or power."

Stella's head snapped up. Meeting his intense, bottomless gaze, her breath hitched.

"I lack a wife," Roger said bluntly, staring right at her. "Marry me."
