The little princess Charlotte: ???

“Thank you,” Stella said softly, glancing up at Roger. “I should... get to class.”

“Alright.”

Roger nodded, watching her walk away until she disappeared into the crowd. The smug, victorious smile on his face only grew wider.

He was one massive step closer to officially having a girlfriend.

Shortly after the sports car sped off, a figure stepped out from a nearby alleyway.

The woman whipped out her phone, immediately dialing Veronica. “I'm standing outside Kingswood University, and I just saw your Dr. Gates.”

“What?”

Veronica dropped the file she was holding, her tone instantly sharpening. “At Kingswood?”

“Exactly.” The woman on the other end sounded hesitant. “He just dropped a girl off for class.”

A girl?

Veronica's grip on her phone tightened, her face twisting into an ugly scowl.

She was right.

The girl went to Kingswood.

“I didn't have a good angle, though. I only managed to snap a picture of her back.”

“Whatever you have, send the roster and the photo to me right now,” Veronica demanded.

“Okay.”

The line clicked dead, and a second later, her phone buzzed with an incoming text.

Alongside the department roster was an incredibly blurry photo of a girl walking away.

Even without seeing her face, it was obvious she was tall and slender, but her clothes were astonishingly cheap and ordinary...

This was the type of girl Roger was throwing himself at?

But...

As Veronica squinted closely at the blurry figure, a deep frown creased her forehead. Something felt off.

The silhouette was agonizingly familiar.

She had definitely seen this girl somewhere before.

Veronica racked her brain, but she couldn't place the memory.

Still, knowing she was a psychology major at Kingswood, and having a photo...

Tracking her down now was going to be child's play.

When she was alone, having something vibrant and alive to keep her company would make the silence feel a little less suffocating.

“Thank you.”

Deeply touched by the immense thought and care he had put into this, Stella whispered, “But... isn't Grandpa Robert going to be furious?”

“It's fine.”

A lazy, arrogant smirk played on Roger's lips. He answered with terrifying nonchalance. “Worst case scenario, he beats me with his cane. I can take it.”

“What?”

Stella's eyes widened in genuine panic. “He's going to hit you?”

“Yeah.”

Roger couldn't help but laugh at how fiercely protective she looked. He deliberately kept his face deadpan. “Of course, there is one way to get out of it.”

“How?”

Stella asked urgently. If it came down to it, she'd return the tank herself to save him.

“I just have to tell him I stole them to give to his future granddaughter-in-law.” Roger lowered his gaze, his dark eyes locking onto hers with burning intensity. “Once I tell him that, he'd probably give you the entire pond without blinking.”

Stella: “...”

He had set that trap perfectly, and she walked right into it.
