"You..."

Veronica tried to speak, but after screaming for help all night, her voice was completely gone.

Roger's face was a mask of cold fury. He walked over and towered above her, his eyes devoid of any human warmth.

"What do you want?" Under his icy glare, Veronica's chest tightened in fear.

She knew Roger was normally aloof, and she had seen him angry before.

But he had never looked this terrifying.

He looked like he wanted to kill her.

"Was it you?"

Roger tilted his head slightly. His deep, black eyes locked onto her, and his gravelly voice sounded like a demon crawling out of hell. It made her skin crawl.

Veronica bit her lip, struggling to breathe, her voice trembling. "So what if it was? It's all true, isn't it?"

Abused, covered in scars, ruining the Gates family's name...

Every single word was a fact!

"Roger, she doesn't deserve you."

Veronica stared at him, her emotions spiraling out of control. She screamed with everything she had, "You're so brilliant! There are a million perfect girls out there for you!"

"Who is Stella? Her parents are rotting in jail, and she was defiled by another man!"

"Roger, aren't you a germaphobe? You throw a fit if I even touch your laptop! But look at Stella! She's filthy from head to toe!"

"The internet is right! She's dirty, and being with her is a stain on your family..."

"Ah—!"

Before Veronica could finish, a strong hand clamped down on her throat. Agonizing pain and absolute suffocation consumed her.

Veronica's eyes bulged in disbelief as she stared at the enraged man above her.

Roger was famous for his absolute self-control. She never imagined he would actually try to murder her.

She refused to believe a brilliant doctor like Roger would actually commit murder.

"Roger..."

Noticing the raw hatred in his eyes, a nearby bodyguard stepped in and nervously cautioned, "Please calm down."

Charlotte had explicitly ordered that Veronica would be dealt with.

Just not today.

"Don't worry, I won't kill you." Roger threw her to the ground. He pulled out a disinfectant wipe and methodically cleaned his fingers, shooting the gasping woman a look of pure disgust. "You're too filthy."

"Roger!"

Hearing his venomous words, Veronica's tears fell like shattered glass. Her voice was a wretched, pathetic sob. "I've followed in your footsteps for years! Why couldn't you ever see how much I loved you?"

She was brilliant too. Everyone in their circle said they were the perfect match.

She truly believed that one day, she would be the one standing by his side.
