Once Roger was gone, Stella finally lifted her head. She stared at the toothbrush waiting for her on the sink, a profound wave of emotion rippling through her dark, hollow eyes.
Meanwhile, in the master bedroom, Charlotte woke up late.
"Where's Stella?" was the first thing out of her mouth as she sat up.
"Downstairs." Anthony pulled the covers back and helped her sit up, sliding her shirt over her head with a lazy smirk. "Your boy Roger has some serious game."
Charlotte raised an eyebrow as Anthony knelt to put her shoes on for her. She finished getting ready and headed downstairs.
The moment she reached the landing, she noticed the dining table. It was loaded with two completely different spreads: all of her favorite foods, and all of Stella's.
Charlotte smiled, her gaze shifting to the kitchen.
Roger, the elite surgeon who practically lived in a lab coat, was standing at the stove in an apron, flipping eggs with a spatula. And standing right beside him was Stella.
Her hands were clasped behind her back, and she trailed after him like a shadow, watching his every move.
Roger scooped up a piece of the omelet, blew on it until it was cool, and held it to her lips. Stella hesitated for a second before opening her mouth and eating it.
"Hold on," Roger said, suddenly remembering something. He turned and walked toward the refrigerator.
Thinking he was leaving the kitchen, Stella panicked. Her hand shot out instinctively to grab the hem of his shirt. Realizing what she was doing, Roger quickly turned back and caught her hand. He opened the fridge and handed her a small jar of peach panna cotta he had made earlier.
Stella looked down at the dessert, a sudden, overwhelming warmth blossoming in her chest.
"Morning," Charlotte called out, leaning against the counter and watching the disgustingly cute scene with a smirk.
