Patricia pulled Anne down so hard, they both landed in the bushes.

“Patricia…”

“Shh, don’t say a word!” Patricia hissed, pressing Anne’s head lower. “Hand me my reading glasses, quick!”

Anne, dizzy from all the sudden movement, scrambled to pass over the glasses.

“Anne, you’d better not freak out in a minute,” Patricia said, slipping the glasses on, her tone serious. “Don’t scare that girl off, okay?”

Anne could only nod, though she couldn’t help thinking Patricia was the one who needed calming down.

A minute passed.

A sleek sports car rolled to a stop. Anthony, tall and sharply dressed, stepped out. He leaned back into the car and gently scooped up Charlotte, who was fast asleep.

He held her like she was the most precious thing in the world.

“Anne, look… it’s her…” Patricia whispered, trembling with excitement. She almost stood up, but Anne grabbed her arm and pulled her back down. “Patricia, you said not to get excited…”

Patricia slapped a hand over her mouth, peeking out from behind the bushes, eyes shining with curiosity as she watched Anthony carry Charlotte.

Charlotte was curled up in Anthony’s arms, his jacket draped over her, her cheek pressed against his chest. The way they looked together… it was way too intimate.

From Patricia’s angle, she could see Charlotte’s side profile. Her face was tiny, her lashes long and dark, her skin so pale it almost glowed.

No doubt about it, she was beautiful.

But somehow, she also looked a little familiar…

Anthony’s gaze never left Charlotte. His usually cold eyes had softened, looking at her with so much tenderness it was almost unbelievable.

If Patricia hadn’t seen it herself, she would never have believed Anthony could act like this, letting down his guard and showing that kind of affection.

But still, that girl was definitely younger than him.

“Anthony, Patricia’s here.”

“Yeah, I know.”

Anthony gave a lazy smile, loosening his tie with an easy, almost careless grace. He didn’t seem the least bit surprised.

“And…” Helen followed close behind, lowering her voice. “Patricia doesn’t look too happy. She said she wants to see Ms. Main…”

The way Patricia looked, all stern and determined, she seemed ready to storm in and break them up.

Anthony’s smile grew a little deeper, his eyes glinting with amusement.

Down in the living room, Patricia sat stiffly on the couch, her pants streaked with mud and grass. She looked a bit worse for wear.

When Anthony came downstairs, she jumped up and craned her neck to see behind him. Not spotting Charlotte, she frowned and said, “Why is it just you?” Her tone was more than a little annoyed.
