Olivia was in the middle of talking when she looked up and spotted Charlotte. For a split second, jealousy flickered in her eyes. “Charlotte, what are you doing here?”
Charlotte didn’t answer. She just kept drying her hands, quiet as ever.
Olivia, annoyed that Charlotte was ignoring her, curled her fingers into a fist and kept going. “So, which university are you applying to? I’m aiming for The Cabinda University. Want to try for the same one as me?”
Nancy snorted before Charlotte could even react. “Olivia, are you serious? That’s The Cabinda University. The best in the country. They’re not just taking anyone off the street, you know.”
Nancy’s smile grew sharper as she stepped closer, her voice turning mean. “Charlotte, that hand injury of yours is pretty convenient, isn’t it? Did you hurt yourself on purpose to avoid failing and embarrassing yourself?” She glanced at Charlotte’s bandaged hand. “Let me see. Who wrapped this for you? It looks terrible. So fake.”
Olivia just stood there, quietly watching Nancy pile on.
Suddenly, a crumpled white napkin flew through the air and smacked Nancy right in the face. The hit startled her, and she peeled it off, realizing it was a tissue. Wasn’t this the same one Charlotte had just used to wipe her shoes?
“Charlotte, did you just throw a dirty tissue at me? One you used to clean your shoes?”
Nancy’s hands clenched as she charged at Charlotte, ready to let her have it. But before she could even get a word out, Charlotte grabbed a fistful of her hair. Pain shot across Nancy’s scalp, and she barely had time to scream before she was dragged over to the sink and her head was shoved under the icy water.
Nancy thrashed, spluttering as cold water rushed into her mouth and nose. She coughed so hard her whole body shook.
Olivia just stood there, completely shocked that Charlotte would actually fight back—and so fiercely, too.
Olivia sniffed, putting on her best helpless act. “Her hand’s hurt, but if she wants to do well on the exams, maybe she’ll try to cheat.”
“If someone cheats on a big test like this and gets caught, they get expelled, right?”
Nancy’s eyes narrowed as she stared at the door Charlotte had left through. Her whole vibe turned cold. “Don’t worry, Olivia. I’ve already got a plan to make Charlotte pay. This time, I’ll ruin her reputation and make sure she’s kicked out of Vanguard High for good.”
“Don’t do anything reckless,” Olivia warned, but a tiny, satisfied smile played at her lips.
She couldn’t wait for the exams. Soon, Charlotte would be done for.
