Even though it was technically a love scene, at least the lines weren’t too over the top. For that kind of money, Charlotte figured she could probably suck it up.
She frowned a little and flipped to the next page. Her face changed in an instant. What was with these explicit lines? Her finger froze mid-swipe. She lowered her lashes to hide the heat that flashed in her eyes and said, her voice cool, “I’m not doing it.”
Adonis had already started planning how to spend the ridiculous paycheck, but as soon as he heard her answer, his smile disappeared.
“Charlotte, why not?” he asked.
The job was easy, she didn’t have to show her face, and the pay was incredible. Honestly, it was perfect for her.
“You’re single. You wouldn’t understand,” Charlotte replied. And just like that, she hung up without a trace of mercy.
She zipped up her school jacket, making sure her long, pale neck was hidden, and then called Kenneth. Kenneth definitely had money.
On the other end, Adonis just stared at Jackson, completely stunned. He stumbled over his words, “Was Charlotte just… trying to show off her relationship or something?”
“No,” Jackson said, sipping his coffee and shooting Adonis a look that was all annoyance. “She was being brutally honest.”
Adonis was left speechless.
Jackson kept talking, lazy and unbothered. “I saw the script. There’s a lot of steamy stuff in there. Charlotte could probably kill someone and not blink. But asking her to voice scenes like that…”
“You should just be glad you didn’t hand her the script in person. She’d probably break your neck.”
“I really can’t picture her saying lines like that,” Adonis muttered, rubbing his throat, a little embarrassed. “I guess only Anthony would know what that’s like.”
“Of course I am, you came to see me.” Kenneth sat beside her and told someone to grab her some snacks.
Charlotte just shrugged, munching on an apple, a sly glint in her clear eyes. “This is for you.”
Kenneth took what she handed him. He only needed a second to realize what it was, his eyes going wide. “Sheet music?”
He already knew Charlotte was Echo, but actually holding this priceless music in his hands… he couldn’t help the excitement bubbling up inside.
“Sweetie, thank you. I’m really happy,” Kenneth said, flipping through the pages over and over.
It was exactly his style. No, honestly, it felt like this piece had been written just for him, every note perfectly tailored.
