Charlotte spent the next few days at Apex, getting most of the film’s voice-over work done. Only a handful of scenes were left, and those needed the kind of sound you could only get in a real studio.

So, before heading over to Flux Digital, she texted Anthony to keep him from worrying.

Going to Flux Digital for some voice work. Should finish up by midnight.

Anthony replied almost instantly.

Keep your phone on. I’ll come pick you up.

Okay.

Seeing his message made her smile, a warm feeling spreading through her chest. After that, she switched to her group chat called “The Loving Family.”

Nine: We can share the lab data. For now, don’t let Anthony know about N Organization.

Adonis: Charlotte, hiding it is fine for now, but since we’re working together and Anthony is who he is, he’ll figure it out sooner or later.

Charlotte paused, frowning a little before she typed her response.

We’ll handle it when the time comes.

Adonis: Got it.

What really worried her was that, as the heir to N Organization, she carried a weight most people couldn’t imagine. The risks she faced weren’t normal. If Anthony found out, he’d be upset. Charlotte genuinely wanted to protect him.

Once she sent her messages, she tossed her phone into her bag and flagged down a taxi.

As she climbed in, she glanced outside and saw a white Mercedes pull up. Steven and Elizabeth got out, all smiles as they greeted Olivia at the school gate. The three of them stood together, laughing, looking every bit the happy family.

The driver noticed she hadn’t said anything yet. “Where to?”

“Flux Digital.” Charlotte gave a soft reply, pulling her gaze away. A small, sarcastic smile flickered at her lips.

Half an hour later, she’d barely stepped into Flux Digital when her phone rang.

“Lottie, where are you? I’ll come get you.” Kenneth’s voice came through.

“Not bad,” she said with a little lift of her brow, a quiet laugh slipping out as she relaxed.

“You go ahead and finish up. I’ll wait for you outside.” Kenneth wasn’t about to leave her alone here. He wanted to make sure Anthony picked her up himself.

“Alright.” Charlotte didn’t say much more. She put on her headphones and got right back to work.

By eleven fifty, she was done recording. Wrapped up in her coat and scarf, she waited until most of the other actors had left before heading out.

“Lottie.” Kenneth was waiting, just like he’d promised, still holding a steaming hot sweet potato, grinning as he offered it to her.

Emily, who’d heard Timbre was coming to the office that night, had rushed over after getting off her film set. But when she made it up to the top floor, she saw Kenneth laughing with a girl, peeling a sweet potato for her with gentle care.

She recognized Charlotte immediately. She was the same girl Kenneth had been close with before, the one everyone said had another guy in her life. Emily had never seen Kenneth be so warm and attentive to anyone.

Her heart sank. She lowered her head, disappointment written all over her face.
