This is so unfair. They’re all girls, all under twenty, so why was her skin the only one freaking out?

She swore to herself—no more late nights, no more junk food, no more gaming until sunrise. If she broke her promise again… well, she’d just promise herself one more time.

Eileen looked so down that Charlotte finally looked up from her phone, her eyes settling on Eileen’s face. Acne was just part of being a teenager, but it still sucked to care about your looks and feel helpless.

“I have some acne medicine at home. If you want to try it, I can have someone bring it for you in a couple of days,” Charlotte offered.

“Thank you, Charlotte!” Eileen pressed her hands together like she was praying, bowing her head with a look of pure gratitude.

The other two couldn’t help but laugh.

Just then, Charlotte’s phone rang. Uncle Anthony flashed across the screen.

As soon as they realized she was about to talk to a family member, the other girls quietly slipped back to their seats, giving her space without saying a word.

Charlotte straightened up and checked her messages.

Anthony: Want to talk on the phone?

With her phone in hand, Charlotte stepped out of the dorm room, closing the door behind her.

As soon as it clicked shut, the three girls inside looked at each other.

Alvina leaned in. “Is it just me, or does Charlotte’s name sound really familiar?”

Emma frowned, thinking hard. “It’s not just her name. I swear I’ve seen that pretty face somewhere before.”

The answer was right there, but none of them could grab it.

Eileen propped her feet up on her chair and started biting her nails, deep in thought.

Charlotte…

Two minutes later, she shot upright.

“I remember!”

Charlotte’s eyebrows shot up. She cut him off, her voice sharp. “Do you want me to block you?”

Anthony just laughed, though when he spoke again, his tone was back to normal. “Use sunscreen, drink a bottle of milk every morning, and if you can’t sleep, call me.”

“Okay,” Charlotte said softly.

She glanced out the window and caught sight of a girl she didn’t recognize standing across from Stella. Her expression turned icy in an instant. “Anything else?”

“Huh?” Anthony sounded distracted.

“Say you miss me,” Charlotte said, her voice low and a little urgent.

Anthony was quiet for a few seconds, then answered, his voice warm and full of affection. “Yeah. I miss you.”

“Bye.”

Charlotte hung up, satisfied, slipped her phone into her pocket, and headed toward Stella and the unfamiliar girl. Her eyes were cold as ice.
