Samantha: [First time meeting her, so keep your temper in check. Take good care of Lottie and try to leave a good impression.]

Donald just stared at his phone. That ship had already sailed. Any hope for a good impression was long gone.

Roger: [Well? Isn’t Lottie gorgeous? Just as perfect as me, right?]

Donald couldn’t deny it. She really was beautiful. Nora had been stunning when she was young. Her daughter was bound to turn heads too.

Roger: [Not bad being called “brother,” huh?]

Donald didn’t even bother to reply. From the moment he walked in, Lottie hadn’t called him anything, let alone brother. She hadn’t even looked him in the eye. She was clearly mad and wanted nothing to do with him.

Anthony finished feeding Lottie the last piece of orange and gently wiped her hands with a tissue. His voice was soft. “The water got cold. I’ll have someone bring you some hot.”

Anthony glanced over at Donald, and their eyes met. Donald got the message, stood up, and poured a glass of warm water. He took the chance to walk over to Charlotte, putting on his best apologetic smile. “Lottie, I checked the temperature myself. It’s not too hot. You can drink it.”

Charlotte didn’t take the glass. She just looked at him, totally unimpressed, while he tried his hardest to win her over.

All she could think about was the hundred million dollars he had cheated her out of. The anger was still fresh. Then she glanced at Anthony’s split lip and her mood got even worse.

Everyone in the room could see the change. Just a little while ago, Donald had been so aggressive. Now he looked almost pitiful.

“I’m really sorry,” Donald said, seeing that Charlotte’s face was still icy. “If you want to get back at me or hit me, that’s fine. Just don’t ignore me, okay? I came back planning to see you right after checking on the base. I never thought you’d be here…” He rubbed his forehead, voice tight. “I did something I never should have. I hurt you and it’s my fault.”

Thank goodness Lottie was tough enough not to get hurt by him. And thank goodness Anthony was there when she was pushed, so she didn’t get injured.

Before he could get too happy, Charlotte spoke up again. “Did it hurt when you got kicked just now?”

Donald smiled. “Not at all.” Lottie was asking about him. He felt lighter already.

“Is that so?” Charlotte took another bite of banana, lashes fluttering. Her voice was cool as ever. “Well, my boyfriend’s face still hurts a bit from when you punched him.”

Boyfriend?

Donald froze. He looked at Anthony’s bruised face and frowned hard.

Lottie really had a boyfriend?
