Charlotte stared at Anthony for a few moments, then stood up and walked over to Steven and Elizabeth.

“What do you want?”

As Charlotte came closer, Elizabeth shrank back, panic written all over her face. “Your mom took her own life. It had nothing to do with us. If anything, Steven saved your lives.”

Steven was so scared he curled up on the floor, swallowing hard and staying completely silent.

“I’ll let you keep your lives for now.” Charlotte finally looked up, her voice cool and lazy, almost bored. “You’d better be telling the truth. Because if not…”

Then Charlotte turned on her heel and walked back to Anthony, her expression relaxing. “Let’s go.”

The group filed out, and the tension in the room disappeared just like that. Steven and Elizabeth stayed collapsed on the floor, drenched in cold sweat.

“Do you think Charlotte will figure out what really happened back then?” Elizabeth whispered, her voice shaking.
