After breakfast, Anthony slipped a coat over Charlotte’s shoulders and took her hand, which was a little cold. They got into the car together.

As soon as they settled in, Jackson’s voice came through the speaker.

“Solenia?” Charlotte was curled up against Anthony, and she opened her eyes a bit wider.

That formula had taken decades to develop. It was meant for neurological diseases and cost a fortune. The only people who could afford it were usually pharmaceutical companies or big research institutes. But even after all these years, it had never shown up on the market. That was the weird part.

“That’s right,” Jackson said.
