“I’m not interested.”
Charlotte thought back to the way he’d called out Olivia by the restroom. She relaxed a little, her tone softening. “I have a copy of *Cell* with the results from the third trial phase. It hasn’t been published yet. I can send it to you.”
“How do you have an unpublished copy of Asclepius’s *Cell*? Do you know her or something?” Sunlight’s voice trembled, clearly surprised.
“I just got lucky.” Charlotte didn’t bother explaining. In her mind, Sunlight could be a little full of himself, but he was a decent doctor with a good heart. The book would help him.
“Alright,” Sunlight said. He didn’t push for details, but there was a hint of disappointment in his voice. “If you ever change your mind, you know where to find me.”
“Yeah.”
Just as Charlotte was about to hang up, she caught a man’s voice on the other end.
“Sunlight, Mrs. Hawk is awake. Mr. Hawk would like you to come in.”
Franco’s wife?
Charlotte remembered how Mrs. Hawk had looked at her, how shaken she’d been. Her brow creased, but she ended the call, tucked her head against Anthony’s chest, and squeezed his hand. The anxiety swirling inside her finally started to settle.
Meanwhile, over at the presidential residence, Nora was propped up in bed, staring out at the endless blue sky. A white plane sliced through the clouds, gliding right above the roof. She’d been overwhelmed yesterday, and even after a night’s rest, she still looked drained.
“Nora, the doctor’s here.”
At the sound of the voice, Nora lifted her gaze. Franco walked in with a man wearing a white coat.
