She ended the call with a huff, slamming her phone down.
It took a while for her to settle her nerves. Once she was sure the dorm was empty, she opened her drawer and pulled out the carnelian bracelet. She slipped it onto her wrist, turning it this way and that to catch the light. The color looked even duller than when she’d found it. The hall was eerily quiet, the kind of silence that made the air feel heavy. All of Nora’s test results were finally in. The news was bad, but Sunlight had seen it coming. If her illness was easy to treat, it wouldn’t have dragged on for so long.
“Sunlight, please don’t worry,” the butler said, watching Sunlight stare at the stack of reports. “Most of the rumors out there are only half true.”
“Oh? You think you know what I’m worried about?” Sunlight replied, a small smile playing at his lips.
The butler nodded. “We’ve had several doctors claim they could cure Mrs. Hawk, but it turned out they just wanted to use her for clinical experiments. Mr. Hawk got rid of them in the end.” He paused, then added, “Mrs. Hawk is kind. Even when those doctors failed, she made sure they weren’t harmed. So as long as you don’t leak anything about her or her condition, you’ll be safe.”
Until they found Asclepius, Sunlight was Mr. Hawk’s last hope.
“Leak information?” Sunlight looked up, curiosity in his eyes. “Is Mrs. Hawk really that special?” he asked in a low voice.
