In this standout chapter of the Romance novel The Perfect Wife's Perfect Revenge, Lavender introduces new challenges, powerful emotions, and major plot progress that captivate readers from beginning to end.

Hawthorne felt like he’d been struck by lightning. The blow left him reeling, his handsome frame swaying as if he might collapse. Why? Why would his Gwyn even think such a thing? When had he ever thought of harming their children?

Gwyneth continued to watch him with a guarded expression. “What was in that IV the doctor gave me last time? Why does my stomach feel strange so often?” Her words immediately set off alarm bells for Hawthorne. “Gwyn, have you been feeling a downward pulling sensation in your lower abdomen?” Gwyneth's defenses sharpened. “Why do you care how I feel? I’m just telling you, I am keeping these two children. Don't you dare try to force me to get rid of them.”

Pain flooded Hawthorne’s eyes. “I would never get rid of our children. I want them to be born. I want to see them grow up, to see how much they look like you, you know? If you’re really feeling that pulling sensation, you have to go to the hospital with me. If you don't trust the hospitals here, I can take you back to Starfall City.” A downward pulling sensation was a sign of a threatened miscarriage, and he absolutely could not let that happen.

Gwyneth’s wariness and suspicion had grown far beyond what he’d imagined. At first, he thought she was just a little resistant, but it had escalated to her refusing to let him near her. “That’s right, I don't trust you. You have another child; you won't be good to ours. You don't want them.” The more Gwyneth spoke, the more agitated she became. Her brow furrowed in what looked like genuine pain.

Afraid of upsetting her further, Hawthorne quickly pulled her into his arms, gently patting her back. “Gwyn, I won't abandon our children, I promise. If you can’t trust me, that's okay. How about I have Leonie come stay with you? You trust Leonie, right? I'll call her right now and have her take you to the hospital for a check-up. We'll have Leonie arrange the best doctors for you. I won't let anything happen to you.”

Soothed by Hawthorne’s embrace, Gwyneth’s emotions slowly seemed to stabilize. She whimpered like a kitten in his arms. “Okay… call Leonie for me. Let Leonie take me to the hospital.” Just after saying those words, Gwyneth went limp and collapsed in his arms, her eyes closed, unconscious. Hawthorne was terrified out of his wits. He swept her up and yelled for Hans to drive them to the hospital immediately.

As the red light of the emergency room lit up, Hawthorne paced like a caged lion. He called Leonie Everhart, practically roaring into the phone. “Your aunt is sick. She’s in the hospital. Get your ass over here now.” It was the first time her uncle had ever called her, and his tone was so harsh, almost unhinged. Leonie didn't know what had happened, but hearing that her aunt was in the hospital, she didn't waste a second, rushing out the door still in her loungewear.

When Leonie arrived at the hospital, she found her uncle sitting on a bench in the hallway outside the emergency room. His head was buried in his hands, and his entire being radiated a desolate, haggard energy. Layne Everhart was right behind her; he had driven her. Not knowing the severity of the situation, they hadn't dared to tell Mr. and Mrs. Everhart, simply saying they had to step out for a bit, and their parents hadn't thought much of it.

“Uncle… what happened to Aunt Gwyneth?” Hawthorne was so lost in his own world that he didn’t hear Leonie until she called his name several times. He slowly lifted his face from his hands, looking dazed and helpless. It was the first time Leonie had ever seen her uncle like this, and for a moment, she was just as shocked and lost as he was.
