Chapter 364 An Old Friend

Linda froze.

She carefully took the business card from his hand.

“What if I refuse?” she asked quietly.

Huglan leaned against the doorframe and said nothing

It was clear; if she refused, he wouldn’t leave.

He had nothing left to lose. That made him fearless.

Linda, on the other hand, was worried he would cling to her forever.

If Rosalie really could help, that would be best.

Maybe this favor would even make Rosalie treat her a little better.

After hesitating, Linda still made the call.

Rosalie had been in a bad mood because of her daughter. The phone rang several times before she finally picked up.

“A man named Huglan told me to call you,” Linda said.

On the other end, Rosalie jumped to her feet. Her face turned pale.

There was no sound from the phone.

She glanced uneasily at the man who was her father in name only.

Huglan let out a cold laugh and walked over. He took the phone from her hand.

“It’s me,” he said.

His voice was much lower than before, but it was still unmistakable.

Rosalie’s voice trembled.

“Y–you… you…”

“Old friend,” Huglan said calmly. “Let’s meet.”

Alice and Eric came back together again, hand in hand.

Daniel wasn’t surprised anymore; he was used to it.

These two seemed to be in some strange kind of relationship.

Alice took one look and guessed the answer.

“It was Huglan, wasn’t it? If he could get here, someone must have helped him,” she said calmly.

“Don’t rush.”

She found it strange as well.

Huglan was, at heart, just a man from a rural area.

He had spent his whole life in the mountains.

Even when he was involved in trafficking, it was only in nearby small towns.

He had never gone far.

This was Torenridge. It wasn’t too far from Mapleford, but back when transportation was less developed, the trip took two full days and nights

Alice didn’t remember Huglan ever being gone that long.

So the person helping him here was likely arranged by someone behind the scenes.

“We shouldn’t only watch the transport hubs,” she said.

“We should also look into how local companies in Torenridge got started. Check if any of them have been to the hill towns.”

It sounded simple.

“Let’s start with the Previns,” Alice said after a quiet sigh.

She made the decision.

Honestly, she had never liked the Previns in the first place.

When Stella got the call, she was still packing.

She had to bring the kids and her husband. It felt less like a move and more like relocating the whole family.

Stella had just contacted a moving company. Once everything was packed, they could leave right away.

“You want me to look into my parents‘ past?” Stella asked.

She wasn’t sure how to do that, but she agreed to investigate.

“Okay,” she said. “I still have some shares, and I need to go to the office anyway.”

After hanging up, Alice crossed the Rowlands off her list.

They would never be involved in human trafficking.
