She was terrified inside. “You just got out,” she said carefully. “Why don’t you just enjoy life now? Why come back and commit crimes again?”

When Huglan looked at her, there was a hint of coldness in his eyes.

“How did you know I committed a crime?” he asked.

Linda was not on guard around him. In her mind, he was just a man from the countryside, someone who had never seen the world.

At most, he only knew how to act tough.

When you came to me, you looked panicked,” Linda said. “And you even asked Rosalie to protect you. That means you used your last card. If nothing had happened. would you really be this desperate?”

Linda didn’t dare ask what he had done.

If Huglan had killed someone, she could be charged for hiding him.

“Did you come alone?” she asked carefully. “Then … where is my–my mom?”

Huglan let out a cold laugh. “Don’t mention that idiot to me,” he said. “She’s lucky she hasn’t starved to death yet.”

Linda didn’t care about his attitude at all.

She had never lived with her birth parents for a single day. She didn’t know them, and she didn’t feel close to them.

If it weren’t for her public image, she wouldn’t even bother dealing with people like this.

She sat down and closed her eyes for a moment.

“But this can’t go on,” she said. “The staff comes to clean every day. I already turned them away once. If I refuse again tomorrow, they’ll definitely start to suspect something.”
