“I don’t know what you’re playing at, Emma. I appreciate your help, really, I do. But I… I don’t want to be involved with anyone anymore. I need to focus on my mother. Excuse me.”

I turned and walked back into Mom’s room.

The medical equipment seemed… different, but I pushed the thought aside.

I sprinted down the hallway, forgetting to press the call button. I barged into the on-call doctor’s office, dragging him out of bed and back to Mom’s room.

The doctor’s eyes widened as he saw Mom’s fingers twitching.

“This new equipment is amazing! It’s supposed to be a long shot, but this is the second coma patient to wake up!”
