After she hung up with Ava, she started getting ready to head into the studio.

Meanwhile, over at Oakridge Estate, Marian had just finished helping Anne get washed up and changed her into pajamas covered in adorable strawberry bears.

“Daddy!”

“Careful, slow down, sweetheart,” Marian said as she followed Anne down the hall, making sure she didn’t trip.

Max was sitting on the couch, watching the evening news. Anne, clutching her little bunny plush, ran straight into his arms. Max scooped her up and grabbed her milk cup from the table, handing it over.

“Here you go.”

Anne snuggled close, sipping from her cup, happy just to be in her dad’s lap. Max held her gently as the eight o’clock news started.

A few minutes in, Anne suddenly lifted her head, eyes sparkling. “Daddy, look! It’s the pretty lady!”

Max glanced at the TV, saw the host, and then looked down at Anne. She’d always had a sharp memory. Even though she’d only seen Evelynn once on a video call, she’d remembered her right away. What surprised Max was how excited Anne was. Usually, she only got this worked up about family.

He ruffled her hair and smiled. “What’s got you so excited?”

Anne couldn’t take her eyes off the screen. She watched Felicia with the same focus she usually saved for her favorite cartoons, completely forgetting about her milk.

“Anne, do you like her?” Max asked.

Anne turned, her little face serious. “She looks really nice. Just like Aunt Ruby. Daddy, do you know her?”

For the rest of the news, Anne sat quietly with Max. She didn’t understand any of it, but she kept her eyes glued to Felicia on the screen, clutching her milk cup tight.

When the news finally ended, Max noticed Anne was still staring at the TV.

“It’s over now. Do you want to watch cartoons?”

Anne turned to him, her voice hopeful. “Daddy, when can I meet the pretty lady?”

Max gently stroked her hair, his voice warm and full of love. “In a couple of days, sweetheart.”

Anne pouted, her big eyes pleading. “Can’t it be tomorrow?”
