That silence rattled her. Later, Kennedy told her that Max had been spending all his time either working or taking care of the child, even bringing the little girl with him to the office. He obviously didn’t like his wife, maybe even hated her, yet he adored her child. That was something Andrea couldn’t wrap her head around. Shouldn’t you love a child because you love their mother? But the way he cared for Anne was impossible to ignore. Anne had taken a part of Max’s love that used to belong to her. Andrea just couldn’t accept that.

Eventually, she swallowed her pride and reached out to him. It was the first time in her life she’d ever done that. They got back together, but things weren’t the same. The attention and affection he gave her had faded, no matter how much she tried to pretend otherwise.

If she wanted to stay with Max, she had to accept Anne. She couldn’t act spoiled anymore or expect him to cater to her every whim. Now that she was twenty-five, she wanted something more than just being together. She wanted to marry Max and have a child of their own. She’d dropped hints again and again, but Max always told her. “Anne’s still little, Andrea. I’m not thinking about getting remarried right now.”

But Andrea was tired of waiting.

Anne shifted in her sleep, and Max gently adjusted the small blanket over her. He finally responded to something Andrea had said earlier, his voice cool and a little dismissive. “It’s just a pretty face.” He glanced up at Andrea. “What, do you think she’s better looking than you?”

Andrea scoffed, putting on a playful pout. “Of course not.”

His answer made her feel a little better, even if she didn’t want to admit it.

Soon after, the traffic started moving again. The Bentley inched forward, finally breaking free of the gridlock. Felicia and Heather found a cafe nearby to wait for Jeremy. About ten minutes later, he pulled up to the curb, and everyone piled into the car. They headed straight for the themed park.

It was a weekend, so the place was packed. Jeremy got the stroller out of the trunk, lifted Anne in, and started pushing her along with Yara. Heather hooked her arm through Felicia’s and glanced at her brother.

“You’re on kid duty today,” she teased him.

“Sorry, handsome. Didn’t you see her husband and kid over there?”

Felicia was caught off guard. The guy looked over and saw Jeremy nearby with Yara, picking out a stuffed animal. His face turned bright red and he stammered, “Sorry, my mistake,” before hurrying away.

Felicia shot Heather a look and whispered, “What was that about?”

Heather slipped an arm around her waist. “You’ve had guys staring at you all day. This way is faster and more effective.”

Felicia was about to say something back when she suddenly felt someone’s eyes on her. A chill ran down her spine and she instinctively turned to look.
