Felicia gave a short, cold laugh. “Yeah, we don’t even know each other. So why did you spread lies about me?”

She stepped closer, took the tablet from his hands, and pulled up an account. “Don’t tell me you’re not the one who registered this?” The screen showed the forum account Davis had signed up for with his phone. He had tried to delete it, but it wasn’t hard for someone with the right skills to bring it back.

Davis stared at the information, his face going pale. He wanted to deny it, but the evidence was sitting right there. He had nothing to say. All he could do was lower his head, avoiding Darin’s gaze completely.

Darin’s eyes were dark as he looked at him. “Why did you do it?”

Davis glanced up, panic flashing in his eyes, but he couldn’t say a word. He just dropped his head again.

Right then, Davis’ phone started buzzing in his pocket. He fumbled it out, saw Andrea’s name on the screen. Earlier, his boss had called, telling him Darin wanted to see him at Highfield Manor right away. He’d already felt something was off. He’d tried to call Andrea, but she hadn’t answered.

Now, Davis looked at Darin, frozen, not sure if he should pick up.

“Answer it,” Darin said, his voice cold and flat.

Davis’s hands were shaking as he hit the answer button and put the phone to his ear.

Andrea’s voice came through, sounding as smug as ever. “What is it?”

Davis had no idea what to say. He just stood there, silent.

Andrea got impatient when she didn’t get her answer.

Davis took a step forward and handed the phone to Darin.

“Andrea,” Darin said.

In the background, another voice came through, faint but clear enough. “What’s wrong?”

“Max,” Andrea called, her voice suddenly shaky, and then the line went dead.

Darin handed the phone back to Davis and looked at Felicia, who was clearly furious.

“Andrea really crossed the line,” Darin said quietly. “I can apologize for her. Whatever you want, just say it.”

Felicia laughed, sharp and mocking. “You really do spoil your sister.”

Andrea had every reason to be arrogant. No matter what she did, there was always someone there to clean up her mess. Compared to that, slandering Felicia was barely worth mentioning.

Darin caught the look of contempt in Felicia’s eyes, and for a moment, he felt a strange sense of dread. He didn’t answer her.
