“I think we can take his offer,” Jeremy said, his tone thoughtful. “Someday, we might need Darin’s help. But it’s your call.”
Felicia scooped up some rice, chewing in silence. She knew exactly what was going on. Andrea wasn’t just shielded by Darin, she had Max on her side too. If Felicia tried to force Andrea to pay for what she’d done, she’d probably just end up with nothing. The so-called apology would end up pinning the blame on someone else, anyway.
She ate most of her food before finally setting her fork down. “Alright, then. Ask for twenty million in compensation. Have Darin wire it straight to Max, and make sure he includes a note. Tell him it’s for his coffin.”
Jeremy didn’t need more explanation. “I’ll let him know.”
After dinner, Felicia drove home. She pulled into West Hill Residence and found Luke waiting.
“You’re back,” Luke greeted.
Felicia nodded and glanced at Greg. “Where are Mom and Dad?”
“They took Sean out for a walk,” Greg replied.
Felicia dropped onto the sofa. “They don’t know about all this, right?”
Greg shook his head. “No, we didn’t say anything.”
“Did you meet with Andrea today?” Luke asked.
Felicia gave them a quick rundown of what had happened.
Luke’s face darkened. “Max should really know what Andrea’s like.”
Felicia let out a cold sneer. “Max probably knows better than anyone. When you love someone, you just do, no matter how awful they are. Their morals don’t matter. Sometimes you even help them get away with things.”
Greg looked troubled. “So that’s it? We’re just letting it drop?”
Darin went on, “The woman who threw coffee on you... that was Evelynn too, right? She really seems to have it out for you. What did you do to her? And why does she owe you twenty million?”
Max shot back, “Shouldn’t you be asking what she did to me?”
Darin laughed quietly. “I’ve never seen you bother this much about a girl before.”
They chatted for a while, then hung up.
Afterwards, Max video-called Anne. She was having breakfast, chattering away. He’d actually planned to bring her with him on this trip—the work wasn’t too intense, and he’d wanted to take her to the beach. But Anne had decided to stay behind this time.
Anne told him about her chat with Evelynn the day before. She was all smiles. “Anne doesn’t like apples or celery. Evelynn doesn’t like them either.”
Tatiana, sitting nearby, heard everything. Her dislike for Evelynn grew even stronger. She was sure Evelynn was just pretending, saying whatever she needed to in order to win Anne over. Clearly, her warning from before had been ignored.
