“How did you hurt your knee?” Jeremy asked.

Felicia shook her head, not wanting to talk about it. “It’s nothing.”

Jeremy didn’t push for more. The room grew quiet.

After a moment, Felicia spoke. “Mr. Milman, I want to take the baby and leave the country.”

Jeremy looked at her, concern in his eyes. “What’s going on?”

Resting her hand on her belly, Felicia stared up at the ceiling. “I don’t feel safe leaving my child with the Hawthorne family.”

“The Hawthornes want this baby. How could you possibly take her away?”

He was right. What could she do? Miranda was so invested in this child now. There was no way she could just leave with her.

Jeremy got up and gently pulled the blanket higher, making sure Felicia was comfortable. “You don’t have to think about all that. Focus on getting better and taking care of yourself. That’s what matters most.”

Anthony came in with a nurse. The nurse needed to treat Felicia’s knee, so Jeremy and Anthony stepped outside.

Anthony leaned in, dropping his voice. “So, what happened between her and Max today?”

Jeremy shook his head. “I honestly don’t know.”

Anthony let out a long sigh. “I have a feeling Felicia’s days here are numbered. Guess who I saw Max with today?”

Jeremy just looked at him.

Anthony grinned, clearly enjoying himself. “Come on, guess.”

Jeremy didn’t even bother to answer.

Anthony nudged him. “Seriously, just guess.”

Jeremy turned away. “You’re being ridiculous.”

Anthony finally gave up and said, “Andrea. You know, Andrea Curtis from IronGate Industries.”

Jeremy didn’t react at all. Anthony stared at him, searching his face for any sign of surprise.

It was his jacket, but it fit her pretty well these days.

They left the hospital and got in the car. Felicia needed to go back to Oakridge Estate to get her things and her phone. She knew she couldn’t stay there anymore.

They pulled up to the villa at around nine. Max should have been gone by now.

Jeremy dropped her off and left for his meeting.

Felicia said goodbye and headed inside.

But as soon as she walked in, she saw Max coming down the stairs. He hadn’t left for work yet.

Felicia stopped in her tracks, looking up at his handsome, unreadable face. A chill ran through her. Max walked down, each step heavy and deliberate, his presence filling the whole room. She felt her heart pounding, her breath coming up short.

He reached the bottom of the stairs and didn’t even look her way.

Felicia found her voice. “About last night. I was a little emotional.”

Jeremy was right. Picking a fight with Max wouldn’t help her at all. There were just two months left. A quiet, peaceful divorce was her best hope. There was no reason to make things messier than they already were.
