"Oh, okay."

Heather shot a quick reply to her brother. [Gotta go, talk later.]

Jeremy just answered with a simple, Okay.

The event was packed. Everywhere you looked, there were people. Before heading out with Anne and Yara, they made sure to put little fox masks on the girls, just like the ones from the game. With all the cameras around, there was no way they wanted the kids' faces showing up online.

Bodyguards kept close by the whole time.

There were plenty of cosplayers, but the second Felicia showed up, everyone turned to look at her. All the cameras followed her too.

Heather kept things simple. She spent most of the event snapping pictures.

It was Anne and Yara’s first time at something like this. So many people, so much noise. Yara handled it pretty well. She'd already been dragged across the world with Heather, so big crowds weren't a huge deal.

Anne was different. She’d always been sheltered, barely ever went out, never seen anything like this. But instead of being scared, she was thrilled. Everything felt new and magical to her, like she’d just stumbled into a brand new world.

The girls looked adorable in their fox masks. Tons of people wanted photos with them. Anne especially loved the attention. She smiled for every picture, and even though everyone asked, neither of them ever took off their masks.

By about three thirty, Felicia finally got a break. She sat down, took off her makeup, and changed back into her regular clothes. The three of them hung out in the lounge, relaxing and watching the world go by outside.

“Did you have fun today, Anne?”

Anne took a sip of juice and grinned. “Yeah. I got so many little gifts.”

Felicia reached over and gently ruffled Anne’s hair.

She turned to Heather. “Send me the photos you took when you get a chance.”

“I want them too, Auntie Heather!” Anne piped up.

“Of course,” Heather said with a smile.

That night, Luke invited everyone out to a French place for dinner.

In Jeremy’s car, Yara was out like a light, leaning against her mom.

Heather held her daughter close and let out a sigh. “Have you ever heard the saying, you snooze, you lose?”

“Mom’s this close to visiting every matchmaker in the country. If you don’t bring a girlfriend home this year, she’s seriously going to bring in a fortune teller to check the house.”

Jeremy just laughed. “Why don’t you try talking to her?”

Heather shook her head. “What’s the point? You’re the one who needs to do something.”

Jeremy kept his eyes on the road. He didn’t say anything else.

Meanwhile, Luke drove Felicia and Anne back to Oakridge Estate.

Anne was wiped out. She’d skipped her nap and had been bouncing around all day. Now she was sound asleep.

Felicia carried her inside, heading straight for the villa’s living room.
