“Grandpa!”

A sweet little voice rang out.

Mandy bounded over in her pink puffer jacket, floppy bunny ears bobbing with every step. She really did look like a tiny, fluffy bunny. Her nanny trailed behind her, hands out just in case.

“Miss Mandy, please slow down.”

Reagan hurried over and scooped her into his arms. “Careful there, Mandy. What if you trip and fall?”

Mandy threw her arms around his neck and planted a big kiss on his cheek.

Reagan’s whole face lit up with a smile, his eyes crinkling with joy. He gently ruffled her soft hair. “Say hi to Uncle Max.”

Mandy turned to Max, her voice sweet and soft. “Uncle Max.”

Max’s eyes softened as he reached out. “Want a hug?”

Mandy nodded and held out her arms, so Max took her from Reagan and cradled her close, a fond look in his eyes.

Reagan asked, “Is Great-grandpa still upset?”

Mandy shook her head. “I made Great-grandpa a cake. He was really happy.”

Reagan grinned. “He loves you best.”

They spent some time with Mandy in the garden. She chased butterflies through the flowers, cupping one carefully in her hands, whispering something only the butterfly could hear, then letting it flutter away.

“When your baby comes, Mandy will have a little playmate,” Reagan said.

Max glanced at Mandy and nodded. “Yeah.”

As lunchtime got closer, Reagan asked Max to stay for lunch, but Max politely turned him down. He figured Nate probably wasn’t ready to see him.

“I’ll talk to the old man soon,” Reagan promised. “Give it a couple days and he’ll calm down.”

That evening, Max drove back to the villa.

As soon as he walked in, Marian and Amaris rushed over, looking furious and ready to complain.

“She acts like she’s family, like this is her own house.”

“She just brought food from outside and put it in our fridge. No one even knows where that meat came from or if it’s safe.”

“We’re just thinking about the baby, but she didn’t appreciate it at all. She even hit me.”

Around five, Ava went to the kitchen to make dinner for Felicia, only to find that all the food she’d brought from home was missing. The chicken and vegetables were from her own family’s farm back home.

At first, Ava tried to be polite and asked Marian and Amaris if they’d seen the food. They just ignored her, pretending not to hear a thing. Finally, fed up, Ava grabbed whatever they were holding and threw it on the floor.

That set the two women off. They started hurling insults and nasty comments at her.

Felicia heard the argument and hurried into the kitchen. She’d expected Marian and Amaris to be petty, but she never imagined they’d go so far as to throw out every single thing Ava had brought.
