Once Felicia got in the car, she said, “Back to Oakridge Estate.” She sent Ava a quick message to let her know she was on her way.

It was almost ten by the time Max came home. Felicia was waiting for him in the living room. When he walked in, his face was as cold as ever, not even glancing her way before moving to leave.

“Max!” Felicia called out, her voice sharper than usual.

Marian and Amaris, who were nearby, both jumped in surprise. Felicia had always acted so cautious around Max, barely raising her voice above a whisper. For her to call out like that, it was like she was a totally different person.

Max stopped, turning his head to look at her. Felicia walked over and stood in front of him, forcing herself to meet his icy stare. She squeezed her hands into fists, trying to steady her nerves.

“Why did you do this?” she asked, her voice trembling.

Max didn’t show any emotion, but his eyes flashed with anger. “Felicia, remember your place.”

His coldness stung. Felicia couldn’t keep her emotions in check anymore. “If you’re upset with me because of Andrea or because I didn’t listen to you, then fine. Take it out on me. But why are you going after Brightfield Digital?”

It was the first time she’d ever snapped at him. Her eyes filled with tears, but Max didn’t soften at all. If anything, his words were even harsher.

“You really think you matter that much to me?” he said quietly.

The message was clear. To him, she was nothing.

The words hit Felicia so hard it felt like she couldn’t breathe. She stared at him, pain written all over her face, but Max just looked away. “You’d better behave,” he warned.

Felicia was rushed to the hospital. After a bunch of tests, the doctor said the baby was showing signs of coming early, but things had calmed down. For now, everything was stable.

Marian had gone with her to the hospital and called Max to report what happened. Max just hung up without saying a word.

The next morning, Max’s phone rang. It was Miranda. “Max, what happened last night? I heard Felicia was taken to the hospital. Is she alright?”

Someone in the neighborhood had seen Felicia being carried away in the ambulance and assumed she was going into labor. The news spread fast and reached Miranda by morning.

“She’s fine now,” Max said, his tone flat, offering nothing more.
