He really was that busy.

A little past eight o'clock, Max finally returned to the apartment. Felicia was sitting in the living room watching television. She looked up, her gaze following the man as he approached. Max walked over and sat down beside her on the sofa, casually wrapping an arm around her waist. A faint smile touched his lips. "Why are you staring at me like that?"

Felicia countered coldly, "What exactly do you expect me to do right now?"

Max's lips curled into a smirk, and his arm tightened slightly around her. "Having you stay by my side gives me peace of mind. I do not want any complications arising before our wedding."

Felicia furrowed her brow, her tone laced with absolute seriousness. "Max, I do not want to argue with you anymore. You plotted to get me here, and I accept that. But please respect my personal freedom. I refuse to be completely dependent on you."

Max studied her face, his playful demeanor fading. "I know you have your own ambitions, and I will not restrict your freedom in the future. I promise, this is the only time."

Felicia met his gaze head-on. "And how exactly am I supposed to believe you?"

Max took her hand gently. "It seems my credibility with you is truly at rock bottom."

"At least you are self-aware," Felicia replied.

Max gave a helpless, half-amused smile. "If you were just a little softer with me, I would not have to resort to tricks and deception."

Felicia stared straight at him. "So, you mean you would prefer me to act exactly the way I did five years ago?"

On this particular morning, Felicia was surprised to find Max still lying next to her after she woke up. However, he was sleeping deeply, showing no signs of waking anytime soon. She quietly washed up and got dressed, then sat on the bedroom sofa to wait for him. After an indeterminate amount of time, the man on the bed stirred. Instinctively, he rolled over and reached out to hold her, only for his arm to grasp empty air. His groggy consciousness snapped awake immediately. Propping himself up on one arm, he looked toward the sofa where she was sitting.

"You are awake?" Felicia asked, standing up and walking toward the edge of the bed.

He leaned against the headboard, his bare chest exposed and his dark hair charmingly tousled over his forehead. He slowly lifted his eyelids to look at her, his voice rough and magnetic with morning lethargy. "You are up early."

"Are you not going to the company today?" Felicia asked.

"I am taking the day off," Max murmured. "I’m thinking taking you out for a walk so you do not get bored."
