Since this was a last-minute dinner plan, all the private dining rooms had already been booked. The two opted for a table by the window. After they finished ordering, Jeremy handed the menu back to the waiter.

"So, what are your plans now?" he asked.

Felicia took a deep breath. "What plans could I possibly have? I will just keep living my life as I should. I signed the contract, so I will have to work in Cloudville for at least a year. By the time that is up, I should be able to smoothly transfer back to the Capital."

When she was initially transferred to Cloudville, she had signed a new employment contract.

Jeremy listened to her steady tone, noting how she genuinely seemed to be carefully mapping out her career path. "Max probably still doesn't know that his divorce from you has been finalized."

"He will find out sooner or later."

Jeremy did not press further and simply nodded. "Then you can start completely fresh from here on out."

"Yes."

"Would you like some red wine?"

"My stomach has been a little upset lately, so I think I will pass for now."

"Have you seen a doctor about it?"

"It is nothing serious. I just need to stick to a normal diet."

"Good."

The waiter began bringing out their food. They chatted comfortably, enveloped in a warm and harmonious atmosphere. The ambient lighting cast a faint, golden halo around them, making the striking pair draw quite a few admiring glances. Someone even coincidentally snapped a photo of the picturesque scene.

After dinner, it was not too late. The two stepped out of the restaurant.

"Would you like to take a walk to digest?" Jeremy suggested.

"That sounds nice."

A brief shower had swept through in the afternoon, leaving the air exceptionally crisp and fresh. They strolled down the street, keeping a polite distance between them.

Jeremy reached out and pulled Felicia into his arms, spinning swiftly to shield her with his body. The car's tires splashed forcefully through the puddle, sending dirty water flying onto the sidewalk. Pedestrians nearby were soaked and began shouting curses at the speeding vehicle. Someone immediately pulled out their phone to call the police.

Recovering from the shock, Felicia looked up at Jeremy.

"Did any water get on you?" he asked.

Felicia shook her head. "No."

Jeremy looked down at the woman in his arms, his eyes dark and unreadable. For a moment, he made no move to let her go. Their eyes met, and the air around them seemed to stand perfectly still.

Felicia's nerves tightened. "Jeremy, your clothes are soaked."

Jeremy slowly released her, his expression remaining completely composed. "It is fine."

Taking a step back, Felicia nodded. "Then we should probably head back."
